Sydney Comedy School
Patron Handbook
The Sydney Comedy School is a leading organisation for people to improve their confidence and public speaking ability by harnessing the power of comedy, storytelling and audience-focused communication techniques.
We run events, workshops, classes and courses that encompass stand-up comedy, improvisation, media studies, public speaking and much more.
This handbook contains important and pertinent information regarding our polices and procedures for patrons.
We encourage attendees of our events and classes to read this handbook.
Please note that while we endeavour to keep this information up to date, our policies and procedures are subject to change without notice, at our discretion.
Events Policy
We run events across Australia. Our events are open to the public. Do not leave your belongings unattended. The Sydney Comedy School is not responsible for any lost or stolen articles.
Your ticket entitles you to a place in your event, such as a class or course.
Cancellation information is located in your ticket, which is purchasable via Eventbrite.
Refunds must be processed via Eventbrite, and you should have the option to cancel tickets directly through the ticketing platform.
If you cancel your ticket with less than 7 days’ notice before your event, you are not entitled to a refund.
If you have extenuating circumstances that have led to your cancellation within 7 days, and you wish to attend a future session, the Sydney Comedy School may be able to defer your ticket to the very next instance of the event.
This registration to the next instance of the event is at the discretion of the Sydney Comedy School.
Deferrals can only occur once.
Should a class/course have prerequisite experience/knowledge, entry may be at the discretion of the Sydney Comedy School.
Students who complete less than three-quarters of the classes in their term may not be eligible to move up to the next level.
This will be at the discretion of the Sydney Comedy School.
We do not offer make-up classes.
Some classes are only open to students within a certain age range, and students who bypass age restrictions will be expelled from the class.
Should an event run by the Sydney Comedy School be cancelled, participants will be given the option of a refund or transfer to an equivalent event (if available).
Open Door Policy
The Sydney Comedy School is committed to providing a safe, productive, and fun environment for all patrons.
We encourage an open and frank atmosphere in which any problem, concern, or question can be addressed and discussed.
These can include but are not limited to educational, medical, safety, or accessibility concerns.
If you have any concerns about these matters, please contact your instructor.
Standards of Conduct
The Sydney Comedy School prohibits unsafe behaviour in our events, classes and at our venues. This includes, but is not limited to:
disruptive, intimidating, domineering, hostile, argumentative or offensive behaviour
harassment
violence (threatened or real) to Sydney Comedy School patrons, staff or property (this includes reckless behaviour that damages our property)
discriminatory behaviour or comments (such as racism, sexism, homophobia or xenophobia)

Breaches may be witnessed by a Sydney Comedy School staff member, or may be the result of a complaint by another patron of the Sydney Comedy School.
Any patron who experiences or witnesses a violation of any of these policies during a Sydney Comedy School event is encouraged to contact one of our staff members.
We will investigate all complaints thoroughly, promptly and with confidentiality.
As per our Open Door Policy, Sydney Comedy School staff will have a frank and open discussion with individuals who breach our Standards of Conduct policy.
